In an ongoing effort to grow and evolve the development team and process at Coexist – the digital microagency is proud to announce the addition of Toby Miller as Technology Director.

Toby brings 15 years of experience in web development technologies to Coexist on the heels of his most recent leadership duties at Resource Interactive. Toby has led development teams responsible for technology breakthroughs for an impressive list of national brands including Apple, HP and Victoria’s Secret.

Of course the title of Technology Director is about as broad and vague as it gets – so we thought a blog post was in order to explain the wonderful world of life with this title at Coexist.

What does the Technology Director do at Coexist?

Assess

Listen to what a client wants as well as what a client needs and formulate a solution based on that information and the best technology fit. Never default to the easiest option just because it is more comfortable. Great results are achieved when you push.

Plan

Ensure user-friendly functionality, usability, compliance, findability and absolute security. Nothing leaves the planning stage without research into the general penetration of a particular technology to ensure that your target audience is ready for our solution. Regardless of the solution, there is always a back-up protocol for those “what if” moments. Initial wire-framing exercises allow Coexist clients to visually understand and approve the user-flow and organization of all related content before anything is ever built. Detailed technology requirement documents ensure that Coexist clients are prepared for unforeseen and often uncontrollable circumstances ranging from huge spikes in web traffic to hackers and anything in between.

Build

Developing a successful online experience requires so much more than compliant coding today. During our build phase – the Technology Director oversees and collaborates with a team of website developers and information/application architects to bring a solution to life. Everything from framework selection to licensing, hosting and prototyping options will be addressed during this phase.

Test

Real-time user testing on a staging site is a vital pre-launch tactic that ensures your audience only sees your brand at its best. Coexist’s testing process is much more than typical proofing and bug fixes. We use real-time user feedback to optimize all of our deliverables while we are constantly checking for functionality, usability and compliance across multiple hardware and software types and configurations. Once testing is complete, our technology experts make sure that each client is trained on the appropriate, user-friendly process to best maximize their new digital tools.

Deploy

Once a client has approved everything on a dedicated staging site – our technology/development team works with every related vendor and third party application provider (when required) to successfully push a new digital experience live to the general public. At this stage – every link, download, animation, e-commerce function, email confirmation and tracking application (for result measurement) is working at 100% efficiency. Tracking and user metrics start being captured the second a new online experience goes live to the public. These metrics and results will help fuel ongoing conversations between Coexist and the client to answer the question… “what’s next.”
